N-Ext Air-8 loosens soil allowing roots to grow deeper and collect more nutrients. It is a type of liquid aeration that creates tiny cracks in the soil structure throughout the layers of the soil vs the traditional mechanical aeration which takes out plugs from the top layer.

You can apply it in a backpack sprayer or with a hose end sprayer. Air-8 is made with Soluble potash and Humic acid so it’s a pretty safe product to apply. You apply it at the rate of 6-9 ounces per 1,000 sq. ft a few times per year.

If you do a screwdriver test and find that it’s really difficult to do, apply Air-8 every few weeks until it is easier, then you can slow down applications. Technically you can’t over-apply air-8 (or it would be really hard to do) so if you are having problems with soil compaction, apply more often.

It’s easy to apply air-8. Here I apply it with my backpack sprayer. Some people use hose end sprayers but I find they clog with thicker materials and the time it takes to unclog/dilute/etc it’s just easier to use the backpack sprayer:

If you are super nerdy and want to get into the science behind liquid aeration products, lawn science nerd Matt Martin from The Grass Factor has a great video:

I’ve used DIY liquid aeration products and humic acids. They work similar and get similar results but do take more work to acquire materials and make the concentrates. Using the N-Ext line of products like Air-8 liquid aeration make it easier and they’ll have better forms of ingredients so if it’s in your budget I definitely recommend it.
