Kentucky Bluegrass (KBG) is my favorite type of grass. It’s a cool-season lawn that spreads with rhyzomes. With active kids constantly destroying my lawn, I rest assured knowing that it can fill in dead spots over time. In the heat of the summer Kentucky Bluegrass requires more water than other grasses like tall fescue to prevent going into dormancy. However, once dormant it can go a longer time without water before dying off. Most cool season lawn mixes will contain 10% or more of Kentucky Bluegrass, but note that KBG seeds are much smaller so the ratio of grass once germinated will be much higher.
